Fashion Sense – Think Before You Shop

Wednesday | Filed in: Fashion updates

Genuine inner strength neither competes, nor compares itself to others. Guy Finley

When shopping, do you ever find yourself doubting the reason for your own actions? Or, do you suddenly get a mind-freeze when buying something you do not need just because may be on sale? It is really like the old saying that goes, the devil made me do it, or, I do not know why I bought this dress, or this skirt, top, shoes, or whatever.

In a situation like this, you must learn to laugh about it, salvage your pride for the mistake, and if you are too embarrassed to return it to the store, give it away as a gift. We have all been there. And it is a huge part of learning and recognizing your fashion sense, or your lack of it.

Rather than try to shop in an unorganized, haphazard sort of way, think about the type of person you are and the style of clothing you plan to purchase for your wardrobe. Then base your shopping habits on items that meet your personality and uniqueness. No matter how much you conform to what is offered in the stores, and what is popular at the moment, there are no two persons that will look exactly the same in the same outfit.

Before you step foot in the next shopping mall, stop and take a clear look at your life. Visualize every single place you frequently go and what you do while there. If your daily destination is to work, school, an at-home mom, a small business owner, a corporate executive, an entertainer, whatever, these are the places where you spend a good portion of every day doing many of the same sorts of things.

Your clothing purchases for these activities should make up the major part of your wardrobe. If you are not a glamorous entertainer, you will not have a closet full of after-five outfits. Clothing for what you do most frequently is your biggest investment. This is where you need the greatest variety. Clothing made in easy care fabrics are often the most important feature.

Next, decide what you can afford to spend. If, like most people, you have a limited amount to spend on clothing, make the most of each purchase. Plan well and with good values in mind.

Avoid trendy fashions that go out of style within three to six months. For longer lasting value, classic styles in dresses, suits and coats are always a good investment.

Is your present wardrobe worth saving? Make a list of every garment in your closet. Buy only new items when you need to discard old, out-of-style items. As fabrics have a tendency to fade from dirt, dust, and perspiration, protect and store your out-of-season clothing in dust-proof bags. Make sure your garments are laundered before storing them away.

Using the list you made of the clothing in your wardrobe, with a little careful planning and judgment, you will be able to decide which items from last season are still wearable. With a few alterations and your imagination, you may be able to update the look. For example, wear one of your classic suit jackets with a new sleeveless dress or long skirt.

In order to care for the various fabrics that make up your wardrobe, most garments come with a care-label. This tag tells you what the fabric is and whether it should be dry-cleaned or if it is suitable for machine laundering. Saving the tag may save you the expense of dry-cleaning a garment that is completely washable, or ruining one by washing it when it should have been dry-cleaned.

Fashion sense comes with planning, with care, and with one purchase at a time. Your wardrobe reflects not only your fashion taste, but also your judgment. Knowing the type of person you are and the style of clothing you plan to purchase for your wardrobe is the basic step. Remember, your shopping habits are formed when you purchase items that meet your personality and your uniqueness.

With these thoughts in mind, have fun shopping!

Discount Designer Clothes ? Shop ?Til You Cramp Your Clicking Finger

Wednesday | Filed in: Wear Design

Let’s face it, wouldn’t you rather wear designer clothes and accessories than something from JC Penney’s?  Of course you would and you would want o do it because designer clothes are more stylish, prestigious, and generally are manufactured with better materials.  So why isn’t everything in your closet designer fashion?  Well DUH!  Do you know how much that stuff costs?

Actually that’s a very good question.  How much do designer clothes really cost?  There’s a big name designer of women’s dresses that holds an employee sale each month and offers them their choice of garment for 90% off.  That’s right, a $600 dress goes for $60.  And these are dresses made in the USA with union labor, not in Asia by some 13 year old like some designer clothes are.  Can you imagine what those foreign made dresses really cost to make?

The huge markup explains in part how so many online shops can offer up designer goods at massive discounts.  Just Google “discount designer dresses” and you’ll get over 43 million returns.  It’s a huge industry and if you’re a smart surfer you can save tons of bucks on some really great designer buys.

Shopping online does have its problems though doesn’t it?  I mean you don’t get a chance to try anything on until you buy it and have it delivered.  What if it doesn’t fit or what if it simply isn’t what you thought it would be?  Here are a couple of tips to handle that issue.

First make sure the store you are buying from has a return policy that you can live with.  How long do you have to return the item, who pays the shipping, do you get a refund or store credit.  Find a shop that you can trust.  The second tip is to try out what you are looking to buy online offline.  If you see something you like in a brick and mortar, try it on and then shop for it online.  By knowing that it fits before ordering you have eliminated the return problem.

So if you’re looking for Gucci or Prada or Armani or almost any name brand designer and you want the stuff for up to half off,  literally let your fingers do the shopping and click your way to a great deal on designer clothes.  You’re going to be amazed at just how much is available and you’ll wonder why you ever shopped in that pricy, snotty boutique in the mall.

Want a real one up experience?  Buy your Gucci top online and then wear it to that boutique preferably when there’s a bunch of people in the store.  Search out the exact item you’re wearing.  Wait for the sales person to ask you if they can help you and then (in a slightly loud voice) say “I don’t think so.  I got this for 40% off online”.  Enjoy your moment of satisfaction because you will probably not be welcome back in the store anytime soon.

Hair, Make-up, and Fashion trends for 2010

By: J’Aliya Jones

Prom 2010 is quickly approaching and like every new season there are new trends in hair, make-up, and prom dress fashion to look forward to. Knowing these trends can make finding that unique prom dress quick and easy.

Make-up: If you’re planning on attending prom this year one of the best ways to ensure you look your best is with your make-up choices. When choosing your look, you should keep it traditional with touches of trend. A bold eye with a soft lip or bright bold lips with a soft neutral eye is sure to bring any look together on that special day. Also keep in mind that your eye shadows don’t have to match your prom dress and that touches of metallic jewel tones can be a fun touch to any look.

Hair: Treat your hair like it was part of your prom dress. Hair can both complete and accentuate your prom look. The “Up-do” is a classic traditional look that has passed the test of time. This style is perfect when showing off a sexy prom dress that has an embellished back that deserves to be seen. You may also want to look to the red carpet for inspiration; celebrities most often set the trends. Don’t be afraid to take a risk and try such hair trends as braids, retro styles from the 40s or 50s, messy ponytails, and chignon buns swept to the side. These looks could be just what you need to achieve that unique style you’re looking for.

Fashions: While simple and traditional prom dresses will forever be in fashion, stand out this prom season in fun prints and floral patterns. Sophisticated one shoulder prom dresses are also making a dramatic statement for Prom 2010. Vintage prom styles from the 40s and 50s are a fun trend for 2010, with long sweeping gowns and A-line silhouettes, these prom dresses are making a comeback. For the risk takers Short prom dresses with full skirts are a flirty alternative to your traditional prom dress.

Knowing what’s in this season will help you put together a look that is as unique and spectacular as you are.
